ASSESSMENT OF THE DEMAND AND CURRENT SITUATION OF CARING FOR SEVERE TETANUS PATIENTS IN NATIONAL HOSPITAL OF TROPICAL DISEASES (4/2019 - 5/2020)

Abstract

Objectives: Describe the nursing care needs of patients with severe tetanus. Assess the current care
status of patients with tetanus.
Subjects and methods: All patients diagnosed with severe tetanus treated at the Emergency and
Intensive Care Units of the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases, from April 2019 to May 2020.
Cross - sectional descriptive study.
Results and conclusions: 62.2%, wounds were not treated initially, 35.1% of patients' wounds self -managed, 100% of severe tetanus patients did not receive tetanus prophylaxis, 100% of patients with severe tetanus are monitored for vital functions every 3 hours, tetanus patients are nourished according
to the doctor's orders, 100%, 100% of tetanus patients are cared for by tracheostomy, sputum suction
Vibration, drainage of the patient's position reached 23.5%, nurses did not have time to fully provide health education counseling for patients and family. To ensure comprehensive patient care, human
resources nurses who directly take care of patients need: 1 nurse/2 stable patients; 1 - 2 nurses/patients have progress, Satisfaction of family members and patients with nursing care was over 90% according to the evaluation criteria of the Ministry of Health.
