ASSESSING COVID-19 CLINICAL AND PARACLINICAL SYMPTOMS OF HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Health care workers are the group with highest risk of Covid-19 infection. Assessing the disease severity among these patients contribute important information to combat and prevent such pandemic in Vietnam.
Subjects and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study, sample size selection at convenience. Selection criteria: health care workers with positive PCR results treated at National Hospital for Tropical Diseases from May to June 2021.
Results and conclusions: 25 health care workers with positive PCR results treated at National Hospital for Tropical Diseases from May to June 2021 were recruited in this study. Among them, 3 were infected due to community exposure whilst the remaining were occupational exposure. According to the severity of infection, 7 were asymptomatic (28%), 11 were mild (44%), 5 were moderate (20%) and 2 were severe condition (8%), none was critical or died. Only 3 patients in mild group already vaccinated with Astra Zeneca vaccine and the others have not vaccinated yet before infection. Cough and sore throat were the main symptoms recorded, accounted for 60%, following by fever (56%). The paraclinical symptoms did not show any differences between mild versus severe group.
Recommendation: Due to low level of vaccinated staff in Vietnam, full vaccination with 2-dose shot is recommended to reduce the number of infected patients in health care workers and to limit the number of cases with severe complications.
