EPIDEMIOLOGY, CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS, LABORATORY TESTS AND TREATMENT RESULTS AMONG COVID-19 PATIENTS TREATED IN NATIONAL HOSPITAL FOR TROPICAL DISEASES (03/2020)

Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to describe the epidemiology, clinical manifestation and laboratory, treatment results among COVID-19 patients treated in National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Subjects and Methods: We conducted a cross - sectional study on 31 patients with confirmation of SARS-CoV-2 using RT - PCR method at National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. We collected information about epidemiology, clinical and subclinical characteristics by direct interview or extract from medical records.
Results: The most common symptoms at admission were dry cough (77.4%) and fever (48.4%). The mean incubation period was 6.6 days. Duration of viral shedding was 7.97 ± 3.95 days. There was 96.8% of patients had normal white blood cell counts; 80% had PCT < 0.25ng/ml. On chest radiographs, we found lung damage in about 83.9% of patients; the mean duration of occurrence was 6.2 ± 4 days since onset of symptoms. The bilateral lung damage was accounted 76.9% and mostly seen in the middle and the bottom of the lung.
Conclusion: Dry cough is the most common symptom among COVID-19 patients. The majority of laboratory results were normal. The lung damage characteristics were bilateral and mainly occurred in the middle lobe and the bottom.
