Abstract

Sepsis due to Vibrio vulnificus has a high mortality rate ranging from 30 to over 50% of cases. A study of 13 cases diagnosed and treated for V. vulnificus sepsis showed common clinical symptoms including shortness of breath, fever including hot fever accompanied by chills, cutaneous lesions such as cellulitis, bullae, and ecchymoses, diarrhea, multiple organ failure, septic shock. The death rate was high up to over 60% of cases. Factors that increase the risk of death included scores qSOFA > 2, NEWS2 > 10 (p = 0.05; CI95%: 1.4 - 9.6). Septic shock, multiple organ failure (p = 0.015; CI95%: 1.4 - 580.6).
