THE CLINICAL, SUBCLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND TREATMENT OUTCOMES FOR PATIENTS WITH STAPHYLOCOCUS AUREUS IN NGHEAN GENERAL FRIENDSHIP HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Sepsis is an acute and severe infection causing by the presence of bacteria in the bloodstream. The mortality of sepsis shock is considered to be from 20 to 50% and Staphylococcus aureus is one of the common pathogens.
Research aim: The clinical and subclinical features and treatment outcomes of Staphylococcus aureus sepsis at tropical disease department, Nghean General Friendship hospital.
Objects and methods: Descriptive and retrospective cross - sectional study on 30 patients with confirmed Staphylococcus aureus- associated sepsis and treated at tropical diseases department, Nghean General Friendship hospital.
Results: About primary infections sites of Staphylococcus aureus, skin and mucosa lesions were the highest number, accounted for 46.7% of sepsis. The clinical features of Staphylococcus aureus - associated sepsis include: high fever, chills (60%) and tachycardia (60%). 93.3% of the patients were detected without any changes of consciousness and 100% of whom found no evidence of hypotensive episode or sepsis shock. The percentage of MRSA was 70% and the treatment outcome was 20 well-recovered and discharged patients (80%), 6.7% in severe conditions or death and 13.3% transferred to higher level hospital. Conclusion: Staphylococcus aureus associated sepsis requires early diagnosis with proper empirical antibiotic therapy in order to enhance the treatment outcome and reduce the mortality and disease complications.
