CLINICAL AND PARACLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS IN PATIENTS WITH SALMONELLA SEPSIS IN 2019 – 2022

Abstract

Objectives: Describing the clinical and subclinical characteristics of patients with Salmonella sepsis at Bach Mai Hospital and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.


Subjects and methods: We did a cross-sectional descriptive analysis of 58 patients, who was blood culture for Salmonella from January 2019 to January 2022 at Bach Mai Hospital and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.


Results and conclusion: The mean age was 53.2 years old, the lowest was 16 years old and the highest was 85 years old, the ratio of men and women was the same  50%. The disease mainly occurs in people with underlying diseases ( 86.2%, of which chronic musculosketetal disease was 32.8%, systemic lupus erythematosus is 22.4%; diabetes was 22.4%. The digestive tract was the most infectious organ ( 65.5%) and the rate of septic shock was 8.6%. The most common serogroups of Salmonella were Salmonella serogroup D (46.6%) and Salmonella serogroup B (24.1%).
