Main Article Content
Abstract
Trichinosis caused by Trichinella larvae is a disease transmitted from animals to humans. The disease circulates throughout the world, depending on the habits of eating uncooked meat. From 1986 to 2009, there were 65.818 cases of Trichinosis and 42 deaths reported from 41 countries. In Vietnam since 1967, the first outbreak of disease was followed by sporadic outbreaks reported in some mountainous provinces in the north. Two cases of severe trichinosis hospitalized showed that the clinical course of the disease has two distinct stages, the bowel episode manifested as food poisoning and muscle stage with the manifestations: allergies, muscle pain, muscle weakness fever. It can cause complications in the brain, heart, lungs... and can lead to death. Therefore, it is important to diagnose early and predict the severity of the disease so that appropriate treatment is available to the patient. Treatment regimen should be Albendazole plus corticosteroids. Combination of Albendazole and praziquantel should be considered in severe cases.
