STUDY ON RISK FACTORS RELATED TO SEPSIS IN PATIENTS AGED 18 YEARS OLD AND ABOVE IN HUE CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Sepsis is one of the important infectious diseases with a high mortality rate. Risk factors are closely related to Sepsis and affect the outcome of treatment. Adults are potentially at risk.
Objectives: 1. To survey some risk factors related to sepsis in adults at Hue Central Hospital. 2. Investigate the relationship between risk factors for sepsis and treatment outcomes.
Subjects and methods: 134 patients aged 18 years old and above, diagnosed with sepsis, treated at Hue Central Hospital, from April 2018 to December 2020. Cross-sectional studies.
Results: The age group over 60 accounted for 47.8%. 85.1% of patients had risk factors. The highest was the history of new surgical intervention (29.1%), followed by diabetes (17.2%), chronic liver (11.9%), immunodeficiency (10.4%), chronic kidney (6%). Common infections were gastrointestinal (31.3%), respiratory (29.1%), skin and kidney urinary (9%). There were 29.1% of cases where the infection was not found. Overall mortality was 43.3%. In which, the mortality of patients over 60 years old is 50%. Primary infection drive does not affect treatment outcome. Some risk factors increase mortality such as history of surgical intervention, immunodeficiency, and diabetes.
Conclusions: The percentage of patients with sepsis over 60 years old is quite high. Some primary risk factors are history of recent surgical intervention, diabetes mellitus, liver disease, immunodeficiency and chronic kidney disease, and kidney urinary and does not affect the treatment results. The mortality rate of patients over 60 years old is quite high. Some risk factors increased mortality such as history of surgical intervention, immunodeficiency, diabetes (p < 0.05)
