OVERVIEW OF RICKETTSIA INFECTIONS IN VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Rickettsia infections are arthropod-borne diseases that are important causes of acute undifferentiated fever in Vietnam and other tropical countries. The disease has clinical manifestations ranging from mild to multiorgan failure, threatening death. In Vietnam, scrub typhus and murine typhus were discovered in the early and mid-twentieth century and are still common causes of acute fever, in which scrub typhus accounts for about 5.5% - 33.1% and murine typhus accounts for about 2.8% - 4.8% of acute undifferentiated fever cases in the country. In addition, spotted fever has gradually been detected in a few cases in most recent years. However, in fact, Rickettsia infections have not been paid attention sufficient.
In this topic, we briefly introduce the situation of Rickettsial infections in Vietnam through an overview and updates from the results of a number of studies published at domestic and international journals.
