Abstract

Objectives: To investigate the differences in clinical manifestations and complications in measlesvaccinated and unvaccinated children at Children's Hospital 1.

Subjects and methods: A retrospective study of 207 pediatric measles patients admitted to the infection disease department of Children’s Hospital 1 from 01/2018 to 12/2020.

Results: The average age of the vaccinated group was 19.6 (14.4 - 29.5) months. The proportion of measles-infected children with complications was 63.7%. The average fever temperature was 39 ± 0.50C, the average duration of fever was 5.4 ± 1.7 days, and the average length of hospital stay was 3 (2 - 4) days. The unvaccinated group had an average age of 11.3 (9.7 - 15.4) months. 78.6% of measles-infected children experienced complications. The average fever temperature was 39.2 ± 0.50C, the average duration of fever was 6.1 ± 1.8 days, and the average length of hospital stay was 3.7 ± 2.2 days. No deaths were reported in either group.

Conclusions: Measles vaccination contributes to a reduction in the severity of clinical symptoms, a decrease in the incidence of complications and the duration of hospitalization.
