Abstract

Background: The cause of sepsis is mainly caused by Gram-negative bacteria (65-69%). In which, Escherichia coli is one of the leading pathogens causing sepsis.

Objective: To determine the antibiotic resistance level of Escherichia coli strains causing sepsis isolated at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital.

Subjects and methods: Escherichia coli strains causing bacteremia were isolated from 1/2021 to 12/2021. Descriptive cross-sectional study.

Results and conclusions: Escherichia coli were resistant to fluoroquinolones, cephalosporines with a high rate (52% - 68%) and resistance to amikacin, carbapenem with a low rate (4.7% - 6.4%).

Recommendation: Continue to monitor the situation of antibiotic resistance every year to have a policy on management and rational use of antibiotics.
