ASSESSMENT OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS PREVENTION OF HBV TRANSMISSION FROM MOTHER TO CHILD AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS B IN THE VIETNAM NATIONAL HOSPITAL FOR TROPICAL DISEASES

Abstract
Objectives: To determine the rate of knowledge, attitude and correct practice on prevention of hepatitis B virus infection in pregnant women at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Subjects methods: All pregnant women with HBsAg(+) who came to the Examination Department, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, were counseled and agreed to participate in the study. The research method was cross-sectional.
Results: The rate of knowledge, attitude and correct practice on prevention of HBV transmission was 56%, 96% and 52%, respectively. The rate of pregnant women with HBeAg (+) who came to the examination was 40%. There was no association between occupation and economic conditions with correct practice in prevention of HBV transmission from mother to child. There were 2/50 pregnant women (4%) who did not fully apply measures to prevent HBV transmission from mother to child despite being counseled.
Conclusions: The rates of correct knowledge, attitude, and practice on HBV transmission prevention were 56%, 96%, and 52%, respectively. The rate of pregnant women with HBeAg(+) who came for examination was 40%. Education and propaganda to improve knowledge on prevention of HBV transmission from
mother to child is very necessary
